By The Sea - Lighthouse Frame

Hello creative friends, happy to share another DT project for Art Anthology. For today's project I made a mixed media, somewhat altered lighthouse frame. I decided not to add a photo yet (needing one that's just right), instead I removed the glass piece and replaced it with pattern paper and a wooden sentiment, I saved the glass piece for when I add the photo later.

I used a combination of Art Anthology Colorations color sprays, Velvet and Sorbet dimensional mediums and some Stone Effects. Please visit the Art Anthology blog for more creative and inspirational ideas...there you will also find links to Pinterest and YouTube. Also, you can join us on Facebook "Art Anthology Adventures In Art", where you can share your ideas and beautiful works of art. Hope to see you there!

Below you will find a step by step tutorial, along with a list of supplies.

Inspire the Arts - Altered Paintbrush

Hello creative gang, welcome back for another Art Anthology DT post. For today's project I created a "grungy rainbow" altered paintbrush. I used Art Anthology's Velvet dimensional paints and the Metal Effects - copper and gold. Love that these are very thick and dimensional, you can literally hold an open bottle upside down and nothing will come out...a little goes a very long way. When lightly applied they are somewhat transparent, which easily allows you to slowly build and control the amount of color needed, especially when using a variety of colors on a small project, like I did here.

I love learning new products as it is always a fun way for me to expand my mind and hopefully find new ways to be creative. For a tutorial, check out the YouTube video posted below and be sure to stop by Art Anthology's blog for more ideas and inspiration from the DT.

Live Life Tag Board

Hi everyone, here with a DT project for the Art Anthology Blog. For this project I used some of the Art Anthology dimensional paints... Metal Effects, Velvet's and Sorbet. These paints are quite different than most paints I've used, they are translucent yet dimensional, so the heavier the application, the more dimensional and opaque they become. The Velvet's have a beautiful matt smooth finish, the Sorbet's have high gloss and a tinge of glitter, I used the combination of both for the leaves.

As for the Metal Effects, I love using them over black gesso by applying the copper first and highlighting with the gold, which makes the copper look more like a rusty background...love this technique, will definitely be using it on another project. On this project I also used it on the face mold to give it an aged, distressed look, hard to see the end result in the video, but you can see it in the close up photo.

Hope you're feeling inspired, be sure to stop by the Art Anthology Blog for more inspiration!

Born to Rock - Tag

Hi everyone, here's a fun, quick and easy tag I made for my DT project for this month's challenge at Mixed Media Warriors. I tried to mix it up a bit with a much larger tag than I'm used to using, yet keeping it somewhat simple by only using some ink pads, a stencil and embossing powder. I thought to use it as the actual gift, by adding a little bracelet for the loop of the tag, along with a couple of concert tickets that will later be clipped to the back. The mood board not only gave me inspiration for color, but the inspiration for a gift as well.

Hope you're inspired to join us for this month's challenge at Mixed Media Warriors, we would love to see what you create.

Enjoy...

Measured Moments - Art Journal Page

Hi everyone, glad to be back with another DT project for Art Anthology. I've decided to create another page for my Vintage Art Journal. My inspiration started with the quote I used, but it was shortly followed by my love for all things vintage. I used a the "scales" stencil, several colorations sprays, a combination of metallic effects and sorbet paints by Art Anthology. Love how all of the colors blended so well together. Below you will find a step by step tutorial.

Please be sure to stop by the Art Anthology blog for more inspiration and tutorials from the design team.

Vintage Art Journal Page...Limited Edition

Hello there, so happy to be posting my first Art Anthology DT project. I so enjoyed playing with all of the different sprays and paints, especially with some of the paints being somewhat translucent. With so many colors and textures to play with, including stencils, I'm so looking forward to creating more projects.

With that, as many of you know, I've done some art journaling in an old library book for practice, but I finally found the courage to create in my Mixed Media Art Journal by Finnabair.  I took a page out by removing the wire rings from the Journal, I did this to create at liberty without making a mess onto the other pages. Keep in mind that I do have the Cinch tool that can easily reattach the rings...although I will not be reattaching it until I complete the entire journal. I have decided to designate this journal to my love of vintage and vintage shabby chic.

Please stop by the Art Anthology shop for more details on the products and the Art Anthology blog for more inspiration from the design team. Below you will find a step by step tutorial.

Enjoy...

Keep Life Simple... Art Journal

Hi everyone, happy to be back with another DT project for Mixed Media Warriors, as always drawing inspiration from this month's mood board posted below. One thing I found myself really enjoying when it comes to creating an art journal page is using inspirational quotes. Positive quotes are great way in opening our minds to self reflect in everyday life... be it ourselves, family and/or friends. As for the theme, there's always something so peaceful, quiet and soothing about the ocean and what lives within it.

I love to mix and match all kinds of mediums, as it's a great way to see what works best together. Below I used a combination of Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Ink Oxides (love) with the addition to Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals (love) and gesso. Using my heat gun I was able to make the gesso somewhat bubble giving it some awesome background texture. The ink oxides have a beautiful soft chalk texture look without the chalkiness feel and the magicals have certain rough, yet awesome texture when it's not fully diluted, which I found to be a perfect combination, as you'll see posted below.

As for the tag pocket, it's a great way to store a special memory...a trip to the aquarium, the beach or a boat ride out to sea.

Enjoy...

TH Distress Ink Oxides...cracked pistachio, iced spruce, broken china and faded jeans.
TH "Small Talk" stickers and Untiy Stamp...Quieter You Become.

LSG magicals...ocean breeze, raspberry lemonade and plumeria pink.
For the foliage TH Distress Ink vintage photo and Ink Oxide fossilized amber.

Hope you feel inspired to join by referencing the beautiful mood board below!

"Shine" Art Journal Page

Hi everyone, today I would love to share with you my first Art Journal page. This has been something that I tend to struggle with, so I never even attempted it until now. My biggest issue is getting started, focusing on an idea and finding ways to implement it, not to mention my fear of ruining pages of my mixed media art journals, as these books can be quite costly. Stopping by my local library, I found a section of old books that were selling for a dollar, so I bought several and decided to use one of the books for my practice journal.

I started off by covering several pages with gesso and went from there. I'm still trying to figure out what works best together, between watercolor, inks, sprays, paints an so on. Below I used a bit of everything, soon realizing using the Neocolor water soluble crayon for the hair was not my best idea, but it is what it is...practice, practice and more practice!!! :)

Enjoy...

I covered the pages with a light layer of gesso, some stamping and Art Anthology sprays.

I used Steampendous face stamp "The Look", some stencils and  Dylusions paint.

For shading and highlights, I used various Prima chalk inks and Neocolor crayons.

For definition a Sharpie thin black marker.

Mini Art Book

Hi everyone, here today with my first designer post for Mixed Media Warriors challenge, my project is inspired by this month's "Spring" mood board. I created a mini chipboard book that I plan to use for small little works of art. I found this book at Michaels that came with metal rings for the binding, I decided to switch it out with a ball chain instead, it can easily hook and unhook when I need to pull out a page.

Looking forward to playing with it!

Please visit Mixed Media Warriors for more inspiration and hope you feel inspired to join us!

Beauty of a White Heart

Hi everyone, in lieu of Valentine's Day, I decided to share a meaningful piece of Art, it is in remembrance of my beautiful mom. Although she passed away many years ago, there are many days I feel as if it were yesterday. She was an amazing woman who had such a pure heart...the Beauty of a White Heart! She was honest, kind and good natured, such a gentle soul to be around, who always tried to see the good in people. She inspired me in many ways and continues to inspire me to be the best person I can be. Life is not perfect, all we can do is try our best to be kind and respectful of those around us.

Every time I look at this piece, I get a warm feeling inside that makes me smile. I feel blessed to have had this woman in my life. She will forever be missed!

Enjoy...

Whenever possible, remember to...

"Be Silly. Be Honest. Be Kind."

I use my phone to record my videos, I was zoomed in and somewhat off camera, I didn't notice until I was finished.
I uploaded it anyway in hopes you will get the gist of it!
If not, sorry! :(

A is for Art

Hi everyone, glad to be back with a quick and simple project, I made an Artist Trading Card (ATC) from a challenge created by Marta in her Facebook group called Maremi's Creative Café. She set out a challenge to create 52 small cards or ATC's, with each card having its own theme. There you will find so many fun and inspiring ways to create such small pieces of art. The size I'm using is  (2 1/4 x 3 1/2) same as Prima's alphabet cards, but you can use a deck of playing cards which is just a tad bigger or create your own.

The first challenge is A for Art, you can use the word or just create something inspired by it. This challenge started about a month ago and it's now on E, but there is no rush as you create at your leisure, the point is to have fun with it. Hope can join in on the challenge, if you share your project be sure to add #52cafecards so it can easily be found. Incase you don't use Facebook, below I have posted the current themes.

Enjoy...
