Everyone has a story...

Hello beautiful peeps, so happy to be back to share my latest project. After a much needed break, if feels great to be creating again. Art is a great way to express ourselves, even if it's in the simplest of ways. Life isn't always as it seems and we all have our reasons for doing what we do. It's important to remind ourselves that everyone has their own story to tell...hence the inspiration behind this piece.

We may not always understand or agree with why certain things happen the way they do, but for me it's always important to try and read between the lines. Now, it doesn't mean I will always get it right, but regardless, it usually helps me put things into perspective, as I too have my own story to tell.

In time, I have accumulated many, many things that have yet to be put to use, including much of Tim Holtz's product line...some old, some new and some on the way...YIKES!!! In creating this project, that became my main focus, so I used the TH Etcetera thickboard, some background stamps, metal embellishments and distress inks and oxides, along with many other elements as well. All and all, happy with how it turned out!!!

Enjoy...

Have a wonderful day!!!

Born to Rock - Tag

Hi everyone, here's a fun, quick and easy tag I made for my DT project for this month's challenge at Mixed Media Warriors. I tried to mix it up a bit with a much larger tag than I'm used to using, yet keeping it somewhat simple by only using some ink pads, a stencil and embossing powder. I thought to use it as the actual gift, by adding a little bracelet for the loop of the tag, along with a couple of concert tickets that will later be clipped to the back. The mood board not only gave me inspiration for color, but the inspiration for a gift as well.

Hope you're inspired to join us for this month's challenge at Mixed Media Warriors, we would love to see what you create.

Enjoy...

Vintage Art Journal Page...Limited Edition

Hello there, so happy to be posting my first Art Anthology DT project. I so enjoyed playing with all of the different sprays and paints, especially with some of the paints being somewhat translucent. With so many colors and textures to play with, including stencils, I'm so looking forward to creating more projects.

With that, as many of you know, I've done some art journaling in an old library book for practice, but I finally found the courage to create in my Mixed Media Art Journal by Finnabair.  I took a page out by removing the wire rings from the Journal, I did this to create at liberty without making a mess onto the other pages. Keep in mind that I do have the Cinch tool that can easily reattach the rings...although I will not be reattaching it until I complete the entire journal. I have decided to designate this journal to my love of vintage and vintage shabby chic.

Please stop by the Art Anthology shop for more details on the products and the Art Anthology blog for more inspiration from the design team. Below you will find a step by step tutorial.

Enjoy...

You Make Life Beautiful - Art Journal

Hi everyone, back with another Art Journal page. My inspiration for this page is my family... my husband, my boys and our dog. They truly do make my life beautiful in so many ways, couldn't imagine my life without them.💕

For the background I used gesso mixed in with a variety of Deco Art paints and some BoBunny stamps. I fussy cut the hearts and the quote from DCWV paper pad "Collage Art". For shading I used Faber Caster Big Brush markers and for highlights the Deco Art paint pen. Love using a spatula and my fingers as paint tools, there's just something about messy paint fingers that makes me smile.

Enjoy...

Keep Life Simple... Art Journal

Hi everyone, happy to be back with another DT project for Mixed Media Warriors, as always drawing inspiration from this month's mood board posted below. One thing I found myself really enjoying when it comes to creating an art journal page is using inspirational quotes. Positive quotes are great way in opening our minds to self reflect in everyday life... be it ourselves, family and/or friends. As for the theme, there's always something so peaceful, quiet and soothing about the ocean and what lives within it.

I love to mix and match all kinds of mediums, as it's a great way to see what works best together. Below I used a combination of Tim Holtz Distress Ink and Ink Oxides (love) with the addition to Lindy's Stamp Gang Magicals (love) and gesso. Using my heat gun I was able to make the gesso somewhat bubble giving it some awesome background texture. The ink oxides have a beautiful soft chalk texture look without the chalkiness feel and the magicals have certain rough, yet awesome texture when it's not fully diluted, which I found to be a perfect combination, as you'll see posted below.

As for the tag pocket, it's a great way to store a special memory...a trip to the aquarium, the beach or a boat ride out to sea.

Enjoy...

TH Distress Ink Oxides...cracked pistachio, iced spruce, broken china and faded jeans.
TH "Small Talk" stickers and Untiy Stamp...Quieter You Become.

LSG magicals...ocean breeze, raspberry lemonade and plumeria pink.
For the foliage TH Distress Ink vintage photo and Ink Oxide fossilized amber.

"Shine" Art Journal Page

Hi everyone, today I would love to share with you my first Art Journal page. This has been something that I tend to struggle with, so I never even attempted it until now. My biggest issue is getting started, focusing on an idea and finding ways to implement it, not to mention my fear of ruining pages of my mixed media art journals, as these books can be quite costly. Stopping by my local library, I found a section of old books that were selling for a dollar, so I bought several and decided to use one of the books for my practice journal.

I started off by covering several pages with gesso and went from there. I'm still trying to figure out what works best together, between watercolor, inks, sprays, paints an so on. Below I used a bit of everything, soon realizing using the Neocolor water soluble crayon for the hair was not my best idea, but it is what it is...practice, practice and more practice!!! :)

Enjoy...

I covered the pages with a light layer of gesso, some stamping and Art Anthology sprays.

I used Steampendous face stamp "The Look", some stencils and  Dylusions paint.

For shading and highlights, I used various Prima chalk inks and Neocolor crayons.

For definition a Sharpie thin black marker.
